On Connection
~ Connection ~
In the past 8 years I’ve taken literally thousands of people horseback riding. It’s a bit hard to believe considering I only learned to ride about ten years ago! Some people just want to ride a horse and get some photos for their social media and that’s the end of it. But some people, those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, find something more in the experience than just a horseback ride.
I think it often surprises them. It is not necessarily something they even know that they are seeking, or something they even know they had lost. It was not something they set out to discover, or rediscover.
What is it that they find? At the risk of putting words into their mouths I think it has something to do with connecting. Or perhaps reconnecting. Connecting to a part of themselves that somehow, in the busy routines of our day to day lives of cubicles and carpooling and commuting, has gotten lost along the way. Maybe it is the act of traveling at a slower pace, walking through the trails, listening to the birds, bathing in the natural world. Or maybe it is the exhilaration of feeling at one with the horse while galloping full speed down the beach, realizing that you have no choice but to trust this gentle but strong being that is carrying you.
There is a wildness that can be found in connecting with horses. It is not a chaotic wildness. It is more of a deep, primal wildness that offers a portal to the very heart of things. And within it there is a sense of connection - or of reconnection. Remembering who we are.
Why are horses such a draw for so many? I believe it has something to do with that remembering.
Does this stir something in you? Would you like to know more? Would you like to go deeper? If so, I’m happy to be your guide on that journey. Whether it is an experience of actually riding a horse, just spending time amongst the horses, or simply learning more - send me a message to get started.
